Mozilla Firefox for the last eight weeks has gained as much as 30 million new users - said John Lilly.
Mozilla confirmed the words of CEO in an interview with ZDNet Editor website Tristan Nitot, president of Mozilla Europe. "In recent times we have seen an incredible increase in the number of Firefox users" - said.

"Firefox checks for new versions of applications every 24 hours, and when it does ping servers, Mozilla, we counted the number of those shares" - explains Nitot. Head of branch office added that Mozilla has benefited from the above data and counted daily visitor activity. Number of users per month was calculated by multiplying the daily activity three times - to take account of the days when users did not use the browser.

Over the last eight weeks the Mozilla recorded an average increase in the number of daily users of 10 million, from 103 to 113 million. This gives the number of about 330 million monthly users. "It's an amazing feeling to have more than 330 million users - said Nitot. "But it's as much as is currently the population of the United States!"

Nitot added that during the early fall every year Firefox has an annual significant increase in the number of users. This is mainly due to the fact that young people returning from a vacation home and school, and many people decide to buy a new computer.

According to Nitot Internet users with Central and Eastern Europe would still prefer Firefox, especially for privacy that the browser offers the user. Nitot adds that in this region the Internet began to gain popularity at the same time as Firefox globally. "In Eastern Europe, users were stuck with the blue E, and Internet Explorer 6" - said Nitot.
